Just when I'm sitting down to do some sermon work on Mark 2:23ff, along comes this with the links to your pieces on the Sabbath - nice timing, guys! Also, re those articles I find this acronym a great short-hand: LAW = Love At Work (in its favour is a brevity that allows for elaboration). Blessings to you both.
Just wanted to say, thank you both for all the hard work you put into sharing your love and your scholarship.
I'm not Catholic or Protestant but I am deeply grateful to learn ever more about scripture from a scholar who has deep faith in addition to the knowledge gained over years of study.
Fascinating cross-pond analysis, Alastair. Feels like a similar situation in my own (RC) tradition. Am a UK adult catechist and sometimes feel like a little voice in a vast wilderness. A whole generation utterly under-formed. It’s scandalous! US Church seems to throw a lot more money and vision into formation. And, as you say, there seems precious little in the way of best practice conversations/ sharing taking place. I suspect it’s because the incompetent and sometimes mendacious RC institutions over here are so wearied, ashamed and ill-equipped that they’ve simply given up.
That really is sad to hear. Susannah and I are very much committed to thinking of ways to address the issues I discussed, on both sides of the Atlantic.

That is very kind of you to say, Michael. Thank you!
Lovely pictures of the Falls in my hometown. I was sad to learn you'd be teaching in the SC upstate and I'm in the wrong part of the world to go hear.

And God bless you for it. Open to hearing of any working strategies and wins. With thanks
